Thomas was killed in a shootout with deputies.

His obituary read:

"Thomas Patrick Mone, III was born on February 21, 1970 in Chula Vista, California. He was the son of Thomas Patrick Mone II and Lupe Colon. Tommy was a beloved member of his community at Big Bear Resort. He was a friend to many and loved by his family. Thomas entered into rest on Friday, September 16 at his home in Hollister. He is survived by his children, Jacob Mone of Branson, Hanna Mone of Margate, FL, Thomas Mone IV of Hollister and Ariel Mone of Hollister; his parents, Thomas Mone, Jr. of Branson and Lupe Colon of Branson West; brother, Jason Mone and wife Chanelle of Branson; and sisters, Idania Duncan and husband Jeff of Springfield, Maria McDowell and husband David of Branson, Leanne Berosini of Branson and Rena Peal and husband Jesse of Galena."
